Care and Cleaning

HOW TO PROPERLY CARE FOR YOUR RUNNING ROAN TACK PRODUCTS

The most important thing you can do to keep your Running Roan Tack products in good shape is to

PROTECT THE ITEM FROM SWEAT.

It is horse tack, it is going to get sweaty, so you will need to clean the sweat from it frequently.  This applies to any and all leather tack items you own, regardless of brand. Dampen a cloth with water and use that to remove all the sweat, rinsing the cloth often. If you do not remove sweat from your tack items, the sweat will dry out the leather and corrode the metal hardware and findings. There is no way to fix corrosion on hardware. Once the corrosion has begun, it will continue, but you can slow it down by cleaning the sweat from it frequently.

While you're cleaning the sweat from the item, check all the chicago screws on the conchos to ensure they are tight. This is also part of regular maintenance of all your tack items.

CLEANING AND CONDITIONING OF LEATHER TACK

When the leather is in need of some conditioning, use your favorite leather cleaning and conditioning products. There are tons of them out there, just follow the directions for whichever product(s) you choose to use. Make sure to wipe any excess cleaning product from your tack. Clean conchos and buckles with a damp cloth. Mild soap and a soft brush (such as a toothbrush) can be used if needed.

CLEANING AND CARE OF PENDLETON WOOL ACCENTS

Gently brush wool frequently to remove dirt and dust. For minor stains, blot with cold water or seltzer and a clean cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals, as they may damage the wool.

CARE OF HANDBAGS AND WALLETS

Clean and condition the leather as needed with products made for use on upholstery leather. Clean the interior lining of the handbags with a method or product intended for waterproof canvas. Clean metal conchos and buckles with a damp cloth. Use mild soap and a soft brush (such as a toothbrush) if needed.
